about

Dumpster Diving is a collection of misc tracks, covers, and scraps from the last few years. Here's the background on each track, if you're into reading that kind of shit.

You Suffer - I managed to quadruple the length of the famous one-second song by Napalm Death. This was all Servo’s idea. Will there be more like it in the future? Stay tuned…

Outside World - For reasons unknown, I left this one off of “Throw Me in the Trash”. It literally would’ve made no difference if it were on the album. I’m not sure why I cared so much at the time.

Caffeine Nightmare - This tune was part of a coffee-themed E.P. that never happened. It was super fun to write and I’m glad that I now have a reason to release it. Also on that E.P. was the Squirtgun cover of “Coffee” that song wound up spearheading the Lookout! Pavid Vermin Ruins Some Songs album.

Half of Me - The only reason why I cut this song from The Beach Boys Never Surfed is because of its length. I wanted to comfortably fit two songs on each side of the record. Including this song would’ve made that nearly impossible. I do like this one quite a bit though.

Psycho Nightmare - A mediocre Daniel Johnston cover for a tribute album called “Everybody Should Be An Artist”. I’m not sure why it sounds extra shitty.

Where Has Your Head Gone? - This was included as a bonus track on the Brassneck Records (UK) variant of Jump, Jive! and Fail! It was also the last song written from that time. I remember coming up with the main lead on the first take which is very out of character considering my limited guitar playing abilities. It’s a fun mid-tempo track that I wish I had written while I was working on the album.

Throw Me in the Trash (Trashed Version) - Just as the parenthesis suggests, this was the one that was thrown out in favor of the one that made it onto the album. The idea was to start the album with Teenage Elder and seamlessly flow into this song. The plan was to also use that crushed guitar sound throughout the entire album. I still like this one for some reason and I’ll most likely recycle that main guitar riff in the future.

Whoa, Dude! Another song included as a bonus track on the Brassneck Records (UK) variant of Jump, Jive! and Fail! This is one of those songs that kinda wrote itself. I don’t particularly love the main lead, but I do like everything else. I might re-record this one someday.

Summer School - I signed up to be on this Kung Fu Monkeys tribute album while not knowing anything about the Kung Fu Monkeys. I am not hip to a lot of the classic bands in this pop-punk ramonescore scene. I like this song a lot though. Not my version - theirs.

Shout Your Lungs Out - This is a cover of the fictional band, The Beets from the Nickelodeon cartoon, Doug. It’s a total coincidence that I also got the name Pavid Vermin from Doug. I contributed this track to the super cool Drunk Dial Records compilation, “Fakes” where bands cover fictional bands. My friend, Chris Chilton belted out the insane guitar solos on this one!

It’s Not You - There are two versions of this song. The original was a bonus track on Waterslide Records (Japan) variant of Jump!, Jive! and Fail! The second one, the one you hear on this compilation, was re-recorded for Jarama 45RPM’s compilation “Music For Gloves”. This song should’ve been on a proper album.

It Must Be You - A Dolly Parton cover that originally closed my album, Throw Me in the Trash. However, it only remains on the Bloated Kat Records CD version. I liked the way it closed Jolene. So, I figured it would close my album nicely, too. Meh.

Have a Cup of Coffee While the World Implodes - Another song from that scrapped coffee-themed E.P. I wrote this on the first day of the COVID lockdown. At this time I was particularly happy about not leaving the house and taking a break from the real world. Simpler times…
